BCIT Tall Timber Student Housing

SEABC Young Members Tour

The new Tall Timber Student Housing at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) is a mass timber hybrid building whose structural system was designed by Fast+Epp. The tower features a two-way spanning cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor supported on hollow structural steel columns with no beams, and a steel brace lateral system. The structure is encapsulated per the 2018 British Columbia Building Code and uses the latest advances in engineered wood products, prefabrication, and encapsulation strategies for fire resistance. The project was also supported by ongoing research into CLT from at Fast+Epp and partnering institutions.

SEABC Young Members Group is hosting an outdoor social event to bring the community together on a Friday evening. Registration is open to SEABC members but all guests are welcome. So invite your entire teams, whether they are structural engineers are not.
